Governor of Nagaland with others during the Assam State Foundation Day celebrated at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on December 2.
Kohima, November 2 (MExN): The Assam State Foundation Day was celebrated at Raj Bhavan, Kohima under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative on December 2.
Assam with its beautiful landscapes, diverse culture and rich resources serves as a crucial economic powerhouse for India, the Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan noted in his address. “Its abundant tea gardens have not only placed India on the global map as a leading tea producer but have also become a symbol of our agricultural success. The oil and gas reserves in Assam further underscore its value in our country's development, providing energy and economic strength,” he said.
On the relation between Assam and Nagaland, the Governor said that the gathering signifies the strong connection between Assam and Nagaland and highlights the Assamese community’s invaluable contribution to our shared heritage.
“Assam with its remarkable history and cultural depth has always held a special place in the hearts of the Nagas. The bond of friendship between the Nagas and the Assamese is rooted in cultural, historical and geographical proximities,” he said.
Both communities, residing in the Northeastern part of India, have interacted over centuries, fostering mutual respect and understanding. “These interactions have laid the foundation for the bond of friendship and brotherhood that persists to this day. Despite occasional differences, like any neighboring states, the focus should remain on harmonious relations and shared prosperity,” Ganesan added.
“Let this occasion remind us to continue advocating for stronger ties and a mutual appreciation that transcends geographical boundaries,” he exhorted.
The Governor urged the gathering saying, “Let us celebrate not only Assam’s accomplishments but also the enduring bond between the people of Assam and Nagaland, and may this spirit of camaraderie and cooperation lights our path toward a brighter future.”
The celebration featured, creative dance by Sanjana Bordoloi, Assamese song by Monika Gogoi, Bihu dance by Astha Gogoi and Bodo group dance by Beauty Basumatary and friends.
Mhomo Tungoe, Joint Secretary to Governor gave the welcome address, speech on Assam State was said by Dr Pallab Changkakoti, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Statistics, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma and Kevingozo Visa, Under Secretary to Governor gave the vote of thanks.
