Government policy apathetic and unsystematic – EUUN

Dimapur, June 20 (MExN): The Educated Unemployed Union Nagaland (EUUN) today slammed the government for ‘its apathetic and unsystematic policy’ towards the educated unemployed people in the state. “The governmental policy towards educated unemployed is apathetic and not systematic,” stated that a release issued by the EUUN acting president, Achilo Thong and general secretary Vizovor Belho.

The union stated that training on few trades imparted by Industrial Training Institute (ITI) is not sufficient and alleged that funds meant for schemes and projects under various departments are manipulated and exploited by politicians and bureaucrats to suit their own interest. Besides, the EUUN declared that vacancies for various jobs are not advertised and that the vacant stalls and rooms in the commercial buildings funded by the government are not advertised and were allotted to non-locals.

“There is no transparency in the governance,” stated the EUUN. The release further pointed out that the education system in the state is not job-oriented and hit out at the government stating “the ministers and politicians must stop over-pressurizing the heads of department for employment and self employment to commit injustice against helpless people.”

“The root cause of all ever increasing employment problem, extortion, smuggling, black marketing, anti national activities, youth unrest etc. is corruption,” the EUUN pointed out. The EUUN warned government officials not to take the unemployed for granted. “The Government must provide self-employment if not employment,” it demanded.

Nagaland has more than 40,000 registered educated unemployed youths; and the unofficial number according to many concerned people is more than double if both the registered and unregistered unemployed youths are taken into account.
