Dimapur: The Nagaland Government has replied to the memorandum submitted to it by the Tuensang Mon Public Organization (TMPO) relating to the incident at Silonijan on September 15 where Peter Yimchungru was killed by a bullet fired by a bodyguard of the Mokokchung ADC (Judicial).

In a letter dispatched to the President of the TMPO, Banuo Z Jamir, Principal Secretary to the Government of Nagaland has stated that a One Man Inquiry has been instituted to enquire into the facts of the incident on the basis of which legal proceedings would be initiated as to punish the guilty if found so.

On the demand of payment of Rs 20 lakh to the widow of the deceased, Jamir has stated that the Government does not have a policy for payment of such compensation.

“Due regard will be made to extend suitable relief to the widow as has been practiced in similar instances,” Jamir has written while adding that the Government’s rule of providing employment extends only to relatives of Government servants who die while in service. “However,” the Principal Secretary has stated, “the Government shall examine other measures available for extending appropriate help.”

While giving his assurances that the Government will leave no stone unturned to see that justice is done, Jamir has requested the TMPO to use their office and influence to persuade the public of the district to be patient and to extend support to the Government “so that the matter can be brought to a reasonable and just conclusion.”
