Government seek people’s opinion on 33% reservation

Peren, May 2 (DIPR): Minister for Urban Development & Higher Education Nagaland, Dr. Shürhozelie conducted the last Consultative meeting with the public of Peren District on 33% Women reservation policy and Town/Municipal Council Election here on April 2 at Peren Town Hall.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister explained the stand of State Government on 33% Women reservation Act and also on the need to have further consultation with the Civil Societies as some tribal Hoho’s failed to turn up at the first consultative meeting at Kisama. The Minister said he was therefore, once again visiting different districts to have a clear view of the people’s opinion on the women reservation policy, after which the opinion of the public will be compiled and put up to the Government for the final decision. Nagaland Joint Director, Municipal Affairs Cell UD, Toshi Mannen also gave a brief introductory speech on 33% women reservation Act.
During the consultative meeting, the Zeliangrong Baudi (Hoho), Zeliang People’s Organisation, Kuki Inpi (N) GB’s Union, Peren District, Chairman Union Peren District and other Public leaders shared their opinions considering the custom and culture of Zeliangrong Kuki tribe. And on the other side, the Zeliangrong Mother’s Organisation (ZMO), Peren Town Women Welfare Organisation, Tening Town Women Organisation and other Women leader pointed out the needs for building better society by shouldering equal responsibility and urged the Government to go ahead with the implementation of 33% Women reservation Act as amended already.
Earlier the Chairperson, Khrienuo C. Metha, Deputy Commissioner Peren in her welcome address requested the Minister to look into the urgent needs of the District particularly road connectivity at the New District HQ and improvement of local ground Peren Town.
