
Kohima, August 18 : In order to strengthen and improve the management of the border areas, which are disputed, the State Government has decided to create a separate Directorate of Border Affairs which will be under the Administration Control of the Addl. Chief Secretary and Commissioner, Nagaland.
Stating this, Minister for Border Affairs, Khekhiho Zhimomi while answering a starred question said that as far as the administration of the border areas with Assam is concerned, the areas are administered as per the terms of the Interim Agreements of 1972 and 1979. As per the above agreements the Disputed Area Belt is divided into 6 sectors, Sector A, B, C, D, E & F and accordingly, the Government of Nagaland has posted 6 Border Magistrates in charge of the 6 sectors. Further, Geleki Reserved Forest Areas under Tamlu Sub-Division, and disputed areas falling under Naginimora and Tizit Sub-Division of Mon District are being looked after by the respective Administrative Officers of the Sub-Division.
The Minister also said that to develop Border Areas, the Department of Underdeveloped Areas, at present, implements a programme, which is confined to the areas of State bordering Myanmar i.e. International Border.
In reply to a supplementary question raised by MLA Takamasa, the Minister said that the dispute between Nagaland and Assam is in the court and the Government of Nagaland through the initiative of the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, is trying to convince the Government of Assam and that sufficient steps are being taken to settle the matter amicably.
