LONGLENG, JUNE 7 (DIPR): The Governor of Nagaland, K Sankaranarayanan, who has ever since assuming office at Nagaland stressed upon education and future of the youth, again called for focus of attention to education. He said that education is the factor that will decide all fates in this 21st century. He was speaking as the chief guest of the ‘Phom Day’ celebrations at Longleng on June 6 last.
The Governor called upon all public leaders to give greater attention to raise the 45% literacy rate of Longleng by sincerely implementing the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the Communitisation programmes. The Governor said that these programmes were the result of the Government’s commitments towards attainment of 100% literacy by the year 2020 AD. The insurance of freedom from undue interference and irregularities by the public leaders is surely the key requirement, he reiterated.
The Governor assured the people of his full support for development with regard to infrastructure in education, roads and health. He said that he would take up the issues and direct the State Government with regard to the developmental activities for Longleng district.
The Governor appealed to the people for their undiverted energy towards growth of talents in the youth through lasting peace. He expressed his absolute optimism over the capability of Naga youths to excel in many spheres of activity.
Advisor, DUDA, VG and Border Affairs, Chenlom Phom, while speaking on the occasion, said that Longleng district requires speedy infrastructure developments, since it is a new district. He acknowledged that poor road communication, lack of office buildings, staff quarters and amenities are hurdles to overcome for socio-economic upliftment of the people.
Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, Wepretso Mero, addressing the gathering said that there is an urgent need of upgrading the Sub-Divisional status to District status, in all government departmental establishments. He also highlighted the fact that the government immediately requires to acquire more land to facilitate the upgradation process.
