Tseminyu, September 30 (MExN): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishor Yadav has called for closer field-level monitoring of development schemes and improved delivery of essential services in Tseminyu, particularly in remote and rural areas.
According to a State DIPR report, Yadav made the observations during a meeting with district officers and civil society organisations at the DC’s Conference Hall, Tseminyu, on September 30.
The Governor urged officials and civil society representatives to regularly visit the field, interact directly with residents and understand their difficulties. He also stressed monitoring the implementation of flagship schemes, infrastructure projects and welfare programmes through regular inspections, using technology and digital systems where possible.
Yadav highlighted agriculture and allied activities as important livelihood sectors and said Tseminyu has potential in agriculture, horticulture, livestock and poultry. He encouraged the district administration to identify locally suitable products, organise producer groups and self-help groups, facilitate processing and packaging, and connect local products with markets within and outside Nagaland.
Emphasising education and healthcare as foundations of long-term development, the Governor called for effective functioning of primary healthcare institutions and availability of essential services, particularly in remote and rural areas.
He also stressed the importance of electricity, drinking water, roads and digital connectivity and called for better-quality infrastructure to support development and tourism through cultural experiences and community initiatives.
Yadav noted that while Tseminyu is a young district administratively, it has a long history as the homeland of the Rengma Nagas, with distinctive cultural traditions and strong community institutions.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Japheth Woch briefed the Governor on the district’s challenges, including shortages of officers, a hospital and colleges, as well as gaps in roads, infrastructure and digital connectivity. Tseminyu became a district on February 24, 2022.
Rengma Hoho President Gwasinlo Thong also raised the issue of job reservation for the Rengma community and the absence of a college in the district, which requires students to travel to other districts for higher education.
