Govt. plans to picture Longleng to outside world

Longleng, May 16 (MExN): The state government has planned to conduct a ‘Road Show’ at Longleng on June 6-7 coinciding with the Phom Day Celebration where the state government will show case its achievement and also give a platform for the district to expose its potentials to the outside world. This was announced on May 13 at the monthly District Planning and Development Board meeting by Parliamentary Secretary, RD & REPA and Chairman DPDB Longleng, Pangnyu Phom. 

During the meeting, Metsubo Jamir, Director RD & Member, State Level Working Committee briefed about the concept and importance of conducting ‘Road Show-2009.’ He also asked the district heads of department to place their requirement to the head office in Kohima and also to take care of their own department official’s need during their stay in Longleng. V. Sakhrie, Commissioner & Secretary, RD urged the people of Longleng district to shoulder the ‘Road Show unitedly as a challenge and accomplish the hard task, which is to be conducted for the benefit of the district.’ M. Yanthan, Secretary (TPT) assured the board of the “conveyance arrangement” for the people of Longleng district from Dimapur and Kohima to Longleng who would like to avail the same to attend the Road Show and Phom Day celebration. T. Meren Paul, Transport Commissioner also encouraged the people to make the best use of the Road Show. Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed on the issue of road permit on Tangha-Longleng route which the Board has approved the proposal and recommended for further necessary actions. 

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman DPDB C. K Nihekhu welcomed the members particularly Parliamentary Secretary and his entourage from Kohima and Mokokchung who were present in the meeting. The Chairman lamented at the poor performance of the three Government High Schools in Longleng which has “drawn blank” in the recent HSLC examination. He also requested the administration and the department to look into the matter and track the causes affect of poor result and find ways and means to rectify the poor performance. 

The Board has also approved the beneficiaries for allotment of Tractors and Power Trillers. The house also opined that the Taekwondo Association Longleng district must get affiliateon to the Taekwondo Association, Nagaland which is affiliated to the Nagaland Olympics Association. Tabling for scrutiny of papers for approval of grant-in-aid and upgradation of schools including all the five schools have been approved. The Board agreed to entrust EE PWD (R&B) to take necessary action for widening Yongnyah Road near Changtongya-Longleng Junction. The re-alignment and construction of Agri Colony Road, Longleng was discussed and agreed that the road construction work will not be allowed to carry out inside the department fencing which is likely to damage the office building of the department of Irrigation & Flood Control. 

Further, the Board decided to organise mass social work for all town dwellers on May 25 and 26 for Longleng Town for the ensuing Road Show and Phom Day. I. Daniel Zeliang, District Planning Officer & Member Secretary DPDB Longleng informed that the next DPDB meet for the month of June has been postponed to June 3.
