Poi Village (Ukhrul) | April 6 : The future of 190 students studying  in Poi Village Government run Primary and Junior High School in Ukhrul district might go through a bleak education career. The government schools were established during 1961-62 but happen to be the most neglected and forgotten schools.
The conditions of the schools were revealed when this correspondent interacted with the village school “master” in the institutions’ campus, who is the only under-graduate teacher. She is also taking the overall in charge of headmaster for both the Junior and Primary schools with an enrolment of 90 and 100 students, according to the school functionary record.  She said that the dilapidated condition of both the schools lack of basic infrastructures - without any benches, desks, black boards, tables etc. She added that the future of the students’ look bleak although they are keen to learn.
In all the five rooms, witnessed by the village authorities along with the media, the schools' buildings' walls in all four sides were damaged, the roofs had holes and in a condition that would  be blown away easily. Adding that the surroundings of the schools were bushy and overshadowed by grasses.  Despite the lack of basic requirements in the school, the headmistress in-charge said that the most needed thing of the hour is deployment of teachers as she is unable to teach every class though the students are eager to attend classes.
