In a positive outcome, Government High Schools (GHS) in Nagaland reporting ‘zero/nil result’ in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Exam saw a decline in 2021 while number of such schools reporting 100% pass result nearly doubled.
According the HSLC Exam 2021 results declared by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) on July 20, GHS securing ‘zero/nil result’ decreased from 34 in 2020 to 23 in 2021.
There was no nil result among private schools in 2021.
Meanwhile, out of 120 schools securing 100% pass percentage, 25 were GHS and the rest (95) were private schools. It indicated nearly a doubling achievement in 2021 as only 13 GHS could achieve the feat last year.
The GHS included 11 from Mokokchung, 5 from Wokha, 4 from Kohima, 2 each from Tuensang and Phek, and 1 from Peren district.
Detailed analysis of the data from NBSE highlighted that out of 25 schools, 7 were repeating the feat this year while 4 others had achieved over 80% pass percentage last year.
Further, it included two schools registering ‘zero/nil result’ last year. (See Table)
However there was a marginal decline in overall pass percentage among the government schools from 47.40% in 2020 to 44.86% in 2021.
In terms of district-wise performance for government schools, Mokokchung district topped the table with a percentage of 64% followed by Peren and Phek districts at 60%. Kiphire district is at the bottom with 10%.
Out of 1732 students securing above 80% marks, 20 candidates are from government schools.
No separate data on private and government schools were provided by the NBSE for the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC), but it informed that there were 3 toppers from Government Higher Secondary Schools in the merit list.
