Dimapur, February 18 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN on Friday alleged that ‘once again it is jolted with the conspicuous and malicious act of the Assam Rifles.’
In a press release, MIP, GPRN/NSCN stated that “In what can be construed as an act of apparent recurrence of Assam Rifles and police orchestration of atrocity/encounter, on the night of 13th February, 2022, at around 10:35 pm, Sergeant Major Turhuli Thupitor, Naga Army, GPRN/NSCN was taken away from his residence at Muluole Colony, Meluri town by the C-Coy, 38 Assam Rifles of Meluri outpost and Nagaland Police, Meluri on charges of extortion and illegal possession of arms.”
“Whereupon, with no such credible evidence of the said charges, the said 38 Assam Rifles Company and the Meluri police conspired together and arrested the said officer of GPRN/NSCN by sinisterly setting a country-made 9MM pistol upon him. Subsequently, on the 16th February 2022 morning Sgt. Maj. Turhuli Thupitor was found dead in police custody in a suspicious manner,” the MIP said.
It said that “the nature and circumstances leading to the unfair arrest and queer death of the Naga Army cadre under the police custody is not justifiable under any circumstances. GPRN/NSCN is seriously concerned and fully convinced that there is a foul play in the death of Sgt Maj Turhuli Thupitor.”
Further it said that the matter should be taken up and dealt in the highest manner and reciprocity wherein the C-Coy, 38 Assam Rifles and Meluri Police should be answerable. “To this GPRN/NSCN would not remain a silent spectator,” it cautioned.
Meanwhile, the GPRN/NSCN has expressed deep anguish and grief over the untimely demise of Sgt. Maj. Turhuli Thupitor. It said that Sgt. Maj. TurhuliThupitor, A/No. 19295 under Pochury Region was a young and spirited soldier who have enrolled and dedicated to serve for the Naga nation for the past 15 years since 2007.
“His sacrifice and noble service for the cause and aspiration of Naga nation is most worthy to be cherished and would be remembered in the pages of the Naga history,” it said.
GPRN/NSCN conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and prays the Almighty to grant peace and solace during this time of great loss. “May the departed soul rest in eternal peace,” it added.
