
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 6 (MExN): The kingpins involved in the abduction of prominent businessman Hariram Gupta on November 25, 2010, finally fell into the hands of the Dimapur police on Thursday, January 6. A former ‘tatar’ in the GPRN/NSCN, one Jacob alias Sevitao and an accomplice, one Romio were apprehended by the GPRN/NSCN in connection with the high profile kidnapping saga.
GPRN/NSCN functionaries formally handed over the duo to the police today at Khehoyi village ground. Kakheho Chophy, ‘Home Secretary’; Vikheto Kiba, ‘secretary to the GPRN’; Kideon V Zhimomi, secretary, CFSB; G. Jimo, ‘MIP secretary’ besides other representatives from the organisation were present at the handing over. The Dimapur police was led by the Additional Superintendent of Police, Wati Jamir; SDPO, Dimapur Shouka Kakheto and Dy.SP (Reserve) Israel G Xuivi.
G. Jimo speaking on behalf of the organization said that it is the endeavour of the GPRN/NSCN to check and stop all criminal activities. Jimo further asserted that Romio was never a member of the organisation as was claimed by the latter.
A document declaring the release of the duo to the police read: “As per the directive of the Collective Leadership, the representatives of the GPRN/NSCN, hereby, issue the release order of the two accused involved in the abduction of Hariram Gupta on 25th November 2010 at Dimapur. Having admitted to their criminal act to the investigators, the accused namely, former Tatar Jacob alias Sevitao and Romio are released into the custody of the Indian Government for further investigation. The seizures lists as well as their confessional statements are released to the concerned authorities”.
A car (NL 07 5342) belonging to the kidnappers and other personal belongings, including cash and bank documents were also among the items handed over to the police.
Jacob and Romio were nabbed somewhere in Dimapur during the month of December, a few days before Christmas, it was learned. No further details were let known.
According to police sources, Gupta was eventually released by the abductors for a ransom Rs. 30 lakh. The amount is yet to be recovered.
Meanwhile, the police will be seeking custody of the duo from the court on Friday for further interrogation.

Traders commend GPRN/NSCN
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 6 (MExN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce (DCC) and subsidiary trade organisations have appreciated the GPRN/NSCN for apprehending the alleged kidnappers of businessman Hariram Gupta. A joint statement issued by Kasheto Sema, president, DCC, Ato Yepthomi, president, Nagaland Medical Dealers Association (NMDA) and Basu Damani, secretary, Dimapur Distirct Business Community appreciated the GPRN/NSCN for taking necessary action against its cadres involved in “anti-social activities irrespective of its rank and file”.
They appealed to both the NSCNs to look into the activities carried out against the business community and urged them to take stern action against the perpetrators. The DCC also lauded the Dimapur police in cracking the kidnap cases thereby curbing crime in the city. It appealed to the police to apprehend at the earliest those accused who continued to abscond. Further, it appealed the judiciary to understand the gravity of the cases and not allow the accused bail so that there is no future confrontation with the business community.
