The long list of custodial death at the hands of IM gang continues unabated as another Chakhesang National worker Mr. Kusheta Venuh, Leacy, son of late S Venuh of Kizari Village was tortured and battered to death on the night of 27th April 2009, the very day he was arrested along with Sgt. Maj. Vedukhoyi Vero son of Late Murhanyi hailing from Chepoketa Village and another friend Seto Chakhesang son of Ashito of Khuza Village under Chakhesang region. They were taken to Hebron Camp at gunpoint. The barbaric torture and subsequent death of GPRN/NSCN official late Kusheta Venuh has been confirmed beyond doubt. The perpetrators of the crime continue to falsely inform the families that the detainees are all alive. The conditions of other detainees are believed to be critical too. It must be noted that the reconciliatory action of GPRN/NSCN in releasing all IM detainees notably Nimhalie Metha, Kilonser, Salim Tangkhul, Chairprson, NSWON, Hutovi Chishi, Tatar, Imcha Longkumer, MIP Secretary etc. in presence of Hohos and elders has been responded with arrests of a number of Naga Army officers in the past months.
The gross violation of Human rights by IM cadres is too apparent. The latest custodial death of a GPRN/NSCN official will not go unchallenged. GPRN/NSCN questions the silence of NPMHR and other Naga Civil Societies for failing to perform their bounden duties. Ensuring the safety and security of IM rogues in Manipur is not the only call to duty. Is the continuous violation of human rights resulting in custodial death at Hebron Camp permissible under Naga customary law? Is it above international law? How many innocent have been whisked away and put to death silently? How many more Naga fathers and sons must die in IM custody, with their battered bodies never recovered, before Naga Human Rights activists could boldly stand up and say “STOP!”
