GPRN/NSCN reasserts ouster of Kitovi Zhimomi

Welcomes ‘homecoming’ but under Neokpao and Venuh

Dimapur | May 30

Two days after N Kitovi Zhimomi staked claim to camp Khehoyi and the Prime Ministerial post of the GPRN/NSCN, the Neokpao-Alezo-Samson camp reasserted the ouster of its former Ato Kilonser.

Top leaders of the GPRN/NSCN addressed the media at its Council Headquarters, Naga Unification Camp, Khehoyi, on May 30 asserting the impeachment and subsequent expulsion of Zhimomi from its organisational fold. The address was however made only to the television and digital outlets.

The GPRN/NSCN’s Ministry of Information and Publicity, when contacted by The Morung Express, informed that it sought to clarify and counter the claims made by Zhimomi at the May 28 ‘National Assembly’ at the latter’s 5th Mile Model village residence.

According to the MIP, the GPRN/NSCN was ready to welcome back Zhimomi into their folds, if he wishes to, as announced on May 28, but on the condition that the former Ato Kilonser agree to work under President General (retired) MB Neokpao Konyak and Alezo Venuh as Ato Kilonser.

As stated earlier, the MIP said that Zhimomi was impeached and expelled on grounds of acting contrary to the Yehzabo (Constitution). It said that his unilateral decisions and dictatorial style of functioning created dissension among the organisational fold resulting in many of its personnel shifting loyalty. “His misconduct led to the creation of many factions,” it held.

Countering Zhimomi’s claim of establishing the Khehoyi Unification camp, it said that the former Ato Kilonser set foot in the camp three months after it was set up. It also accused Zhimomi of siphoning land compensation, received from the Government of India, for establishing the camp.

It rubbished the allegation leveled by Zhimomi against its army chief Samson Aye, stating that whatever the latter was accused of doing was under the direction of Zhimomi.

It termed that the May 28 ‘National Assembly’ as illegitimate, as per the GPRN/NSCN Constitution, while stating that it had no active members and the rightful Speaker.  It further said that Zhimomi invoking the GPRN/NSCN nomenclature was unconstitutional and did carry its mandate.

Impeached as per Yehzabo: Neokpao
The MIP further forwarded a statement from the GPRN/NSCN President, General (retired) MB Neokpao Konyak. It reasserted Zhimomi’s removal as based on “democratic principle as per Party discipline and Yehzabo (Constitution).”

Neokpao said that he would never allow anyone to claim the Unification camp. “Ever since my appointment as Commander-in-Chief, Naga Army till date as a President, GPRN, Naga Unification camp, Khehoyi, have been my permanent base and I will never allow any disgruntled person or a group to claim this camp from the Naga constitutionally mandated Government,” he asserted.

Narrating the recent chain of events leading to the impeachment, he said that after returning from a tour of the Konyak Region on March 27, he visited Kitovi (Zhimomi) at his residence to apprise him of what was cited as “the situation.” At the meeting, Zhimomi was asked to come to the Khehoyi camp the next day but reportedly did not despite agreeing to.

A similar directive to come to the camp two days later was met with another excuse, he held.  According to the President, regardless of his personal request numerous times, Zhimomi failed to turn up even during special Government functions. “On 19th April again I begged him to come at any cost to stabilise the situation but he never turned up,” Neokpao added.

Accordingly, on April 21, at the emergency National Tatar Hoho, Zhimomi’s alleged misconduct was deliberated with the Assembly reportedly raising the question of “one person or the Government.’

He said that all the allegations against Zhimomi were “proven to be valid,” and he, as the President, recognised the majority decision.

He also rejected the allegation that army chief Samson Aye organised a military coup to remove Zhimomi.
