GPRN/NSCN responds, on October 14 incident

Dimapur, October 18 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN today said the torture of one of its cadres, Ahoshe Awomi, a ‘khapur’, by one Yarteo Tangkhul of the NSCN (IM) “is  easily comparable to that of a mad dog creating unnecessary situation in a peaceful environment.” A rejoinder from the group’s MIP said that the “unreserved brutality” during the process of Naga reconciliation is a bitter reminder that “the mad-dog syndrome, which for some time was thought to have been eradicated among IM cadres, is still prevalent.”

The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) is also accused of trying to please all and displease none and that ‘even a child could point a finger at FNR’ for this tendency. The “excuse for the same given by the so-called MIP” is a “disgraceful attempt to justify the evil deed using the word ‘mistaken identity’ and ‘unification’” the MIP note said. The group said that the October 14  incident was clearly deliberate and pre-planned.

“If the Covenant of Reconciliation has any value to the perpetrators of the crime, they must be answerable to the Naga people. Only in a conflict situation can there be a case of mistaken identity. It is pathetic and foolish for IM, and men like Yarteo Tangkhul, who eat and live in Dimapur on the brows of hardworking Nagas to call a just contribution of Nagas to GPRN/NSCN as illegal taxation. IM’s existence began in 1988; for the rest of the Nagas, freedom struggle had begun four generations earlier.”

The MIP also called it “extremely unfortunate” that the Forum for Naga Reconciliation  “chose to marginalize the inhuman torture of Ahoshe Awomi by IM on 14th Oct 2010.” The rejoinder also listed a number of incidents including the ‘October 14 torture’ in Dimapur which happened “right under the nose of the FNR,” perpetrated “by a signatory of COR upon member of another, which is a total negation of the COR.” “…even a child could point a finger at FNR for trying to please all and displease none. Accepting the gravity of the situation, a rogue must be called a rogue with courage and wisdom,” it stated.
