GPRN/NSCN says it ‘may consider’ FNR’s appeal

Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): In the aftermath of its earlier decision that it would not take part in the proposed ‘highest level meeting’ owing to “many unsavory incidents masterminded by IM group since the signing of the Covenant of Reconciliation”, the GPRN/NSCN has today issued another statement pointing out that it “may consider” the appeal made by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR).

“The special appeal of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) to the Signatories of the Covenant of Reconciliation which appeared in the local dailies on 16th Sept 2010 is duly acknowledged”, stated a press note issued by the MIP. Stating that the “flagrant violation of the Covenant of Reconciliation by IM not withstanding”, it was affirmed that the Collective Leadership of the GPRN/NSCN recognized the “ardent desire of the Naga people for Reconciliation among political groups”. “This is their cherished goal. The common vision of the Nagas cannot be erased by fraudulent individuals. The commitment of the GPRN/NSCN towards Naga Reconciliation is unquestioned”, stated the press note.

Informing that at present there is “a constant and marathon communication between the GPRN/NSCN Collective Leadership, NPAC and the Cabinet”, the press note disclosed that there was “a strong possibility that in the event of GPRN/NSCN’s participation in the meeting, N Kitovi Zhimomi, Ato Kilonser, may attend the proposed summit of top leaders”.

Earlier, Chairman S.S Khaplang had issued a statement pointing out that GPRN/NSCN shall not participate in the proposed meeting of the signatories of the Covenant of Reconciliation “owing to the many unsavory incidents masterminded by IM group since the signing of the Covenant of Reconciliation”. “The Killing of late Nampang and Zaremo by IM group contravene the very covenant signed by their chairman Isak Swu. Justification to every crime committed deliberately is a stumbling block to genuine Naga reconciliation”, the MIP press note issued today stated.

In addition to what it termed as “all the anti-reconciliatory activities of the IM”, the GPRN/NSCN also drew the attention of the Nagas to the interview given to Telegraph Newspaper by Vikiye Awomi which appeared on 17th September 2010. “It is left to the wisdom of the Nagas whether the interview reflects the mind of a man eagerly waiting to embrace and reconcile with his brother or preparing to cause further harm. It is indeed a shoddy utterance of a disoriented individual trying to grab little attention. True to his habits, Vikiye is once again planting nails to puncture Naga Reconciliation”, it was stated. The GPRN/NSCN went on to add that it was “fully aware that there are inimical forces always lurking around to create situations to derail the coming together of Nagas”.
