GPRN/NSCN understood JLF’s intention: Chishi

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 25 (MExN): Former chief minister and Congress MLA, K.L. Chishi said that the Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) met GPRN/NSCN leaders on Friday and cleared the misconceptions that arose out of the JLF’s recent meeting with the central government offering to pave way in the event of an alternative arrangement on the Naga political issue.

Chishi said that the GPRN/NSCN wanted to categorically know what the alternative arrangement meant. To this, he said the JLF explained that alternative arrangement meant when all Naga political groups and negotiating parties form one collective opinion for honourable and acceptable settlement to all people. “That will be alternative arrangement,” he added. Chishi said the JLF is not a part of the negotiating parties and has no authority to talk about interim government or alternative arrangement and added that the legislators were prepared to facilitate and open ways for settlement. He said that the Naga political groups have alleged the JLF of supporting NSCN (I-M) and so the meeting was held to tell them the ground reality and remove all misunderstanding and misconceptions. He said that JLF has requested government of India to hold dialogue with all the Naga political groups.

More than 40 legislators participated in the meeting at Police Complex Chumukedima led by NLA speaker, chief minister, CLP leader, home minister and presidents of NPF and NPCC. Chishi said that chief minister and others would be going to Mon to meet the NSCN (K) on the same issue. He said that the JLF would also be meeting NNC/FGN Singnya and Zhopra on Monday.
When contacted, GPRN/NSCN MIP kilonser, Akato described the meeting as “friendly and fruitful.” “We (GPRN/NSCN) had a lot of question and did not agree with certain points in the JLF resolution but we tried to understand each other and come closer,” he added.

Stating that another meeting between the two sides was scheduled very soon, Akato desisted from commenting further and said they will wait and see what comes up in the next meet.
