Great Commission Higher Secondary School (GCHSS), Dimapur organised the inaugural programme of the 19th annual sports meet with Joel Naga, President, Rising People’s Party (RPP) as the guest of honour at the school premises on November 1.
At the outset of his speech, the political leader shared a brief recollection of his upbringing which was filled with a myriad of trials and tribulations. “I’ve gone through failures and I know what it means to laughed and mocked at,” he said. But all it takes to find success is to have a sincere and committed heart. As such he reminded the students that failure is a stepping stone to success.
Additionally, he cited two major points to keep in mind while choosing to decide what to become in life. Finding one-self and understanding who you are as an individual. “You may belong to a poor family or a small tribe or clan but that should not limit your ability,” he stated.
He also put across to the students that pleasing parents should not come at the expense of finding one’s true purpose in life. As 90% of Naga people are in the wrong profession because they’re following someone else’s dream, he opined. Adding further, your parents are there to guide and mould you but to decide on what to pursue in life should be a personal decision you have to make.
In conclusion, he advised the young students to avoid participating in negative influence, through peer-pressure which might ruin their personal life. Stressing on the virtue of learning to say no.
Earlier, Rev Dr P Dozo, founder & proprietor of GCHSS, gave the invocation and welcome address for the gathering of students, parents, guests and well-wishers.
Meanwhile, an array of ball drill, dumb bell display and taekwondo demonstration were presented by the school students during the event.
