DIMAPUR, JUNE 4 (MExN): The Gorkha Students' Union Chümoukedima District honoured Gorkha HSLC and HSSLC students on June 3 at CTC Hall, Chümoukedima. 

Jacob Sundas, President, GSUCD during his welcome note appreciated the students for their hard work and highlighted the statistics of Gorkhas of Chümoukedima District.

Bishnu chetri, North Town Hr. Sec. School Chümoukedima exhorted the students to maintain consistency and dedication in their studies. 

Speaking at the program, Guest of Honour, Dr Kuzonyi Wideo, ADC cum Administrator of Chümoukedima Town Council stated that the HSLC & HSSLC exam is the most crucial as it decides a person's career. He challenged the students as well as the parents to preserve one's culture and identity in this fast-changing world. 

Nobin Pradhan, President of Nagaland Gorkha Association, during his speech stated that Gorkhas are known to others through their culture and tradition and he urged the Gorkhas to contribute something back to the society. 

Further the NGA President informed about the recording of the history of Gorkha settlement in Nagaland and urged the students, writers and elders of the community to write about how their ancestors came to settle in Nagaland and record stories of their contribution to the society. He also highlighted some of the initiatives undertaken by the NGA, particularly for the Gorkha Students' of Nagaland, where he stated NGA has been already trying hard to get OBC status for the Gorkhas of Nagaland where they can compete for central jobs in future, and encouraged them not to be disheartened in their studies due to financial constraints.  

During his speech he also highlighted about the History of Lt Hari Prasad Rai who is known as the jewel of the Gorkhas of Nagaland and his contribution towards the Naga society of Nagaland and urged the Gorkha students to follow the footprint of Hari Prasad Rai and help Naga society by contribution in any field. 

Altogether 100 Gorkha students were felicitated along with the certificate of excellence by GSUCD to 53 HSLC students, and 47 HSSLC students from the Arts, Commerce, and Science streams.
