HACKING ALERT : Fake PM Kisan Yojana app jacks Whatsapp accounts

Kohima, May 1 (MExN): The Nagaland Police has issued a public warning about a malicious mobile application file named “PM Kisan Yojana v12.apk” that is being circulated across the state, particularly at the district and block levels.

According to the police, the file is being shared via individuals and messaging groups, and once downloaded and installed, it compromises the user's mobile phone. “Once this APK file is clicked and installed, the person will not be able to operate the mobile,” the police warned in a press release.

The malicious software takes over the victim’s WhatsApp account, sending the same file to all contacts and groups associated with the user. “The WhatsApp automatically gets controlled by APK,” the police said.

Authorities have urged the public not to click on, download, install, or forward the file under any circumstance. “Kindly share this information for greater reach,” the advisory added.

The file appears to impersonate a legitimate government scheme — PM Kisan Yojana, a central government initiative providing financial support to farmers — to deceive users into trusting and installing it.

Police have also circulated screenshots of the app being forwarded through WhatsApp, showing filenames like “PM KISAN YOJNA v12.apk” with file sizes around 8.5MB.

The Nagaland Police is requesting all users to remain vigilant and report any suspicious digital activity to authorities.

For assistance or to report incidents, the public is encouraged to contact their nearest police station or cybercrime unit.
