Hailstorm disaster at Zunheboto

• Total 370 households affected • Crop and other plantations destroyed • Government gives financial relief   Zunheboto, April 20 (MExN): Reacting to the recent hailstorm in Zunheboto district, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department has sent immediate financial relief to the affected households through the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

  The NSDMA deputed an officer to make an on the spot assessment along with officials from the DDMA. According to the initial report received a total of 370 households have been affected by a hailstorm on April 18th night at Suruhuto- Asuto areas, Akuluto and Aghunato under Zunheboto district. Crop cultivation in Aichi Saghemi and plantations Akuluto were destroyed completely.   The NSDMA is constantly in touch with all the DDMAs however no other damage reports have been received so far. Mention may be made that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 12th Bn. is also presently in Zunheboto district for familiarization exercise on disaster management. A platoon of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is also permanently stationed in the district to handle any disaster.   This was stated in a press release issued by Khrienuo Metha, Secretary to the Government of Nagaland.   Meanwhile, a DIPR Report stated that a team of officials led by ADC Zunheboto, Nungsangmenla Imchen, Nodal Officer, NSDMA, L. Jonjibemo, Assistant Commandant, 12 BN NDRF, Itanagar, Ajay Bahadur SDRF and DPRO on April 20 visited Aichi Saghemi and Naltoqa areas that were damaged by hailstorm on April 18. ADC in her visit inspected the areas and also interacted with the GBs and Village elders and assured best possible help to the victims.
