
DIMAPUR, FEB 12 (MExN): A workshop on schemes and initiatives of the Government in the textile industry was held today at Town Hall, Dimapur. The workshop was jointly organized by the Industries and Commerce department with the Regional office of Textile Commissioner, Kolkata.
In his address, the chief guest, Alemtemshi Jamir (IAS), Principal Secretary of Industries and commerce, said that no matter how isolated Nagaland might be, the state could not escape globalization and the global economy in textiles. ‘So it was up to us to consider what percentage of the global production we are willing to take on’ he said. The chief guest also urged entrepreneurs to go beyond India and explore the markets of rural Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar etc., with the raw materials and subsidies provided by the government. Alemtemshi also revealed plans of the department to set up a handloom commission to felicitate commercialization of handloom products.
Earlier on in the program, a Power-Point presentation on important Central Government’s schemes for development of the textile industry was given by Ashok Hazra. The keynote address was delivered by JN Singh (IAS) Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textile Mumbai.
