Handloom weaving trainees’ assessment conducted at Wokha

Wokha, November 4 (MExN): An assessment of handloom weaving trainees was conducted on November 4 as part of the 45-days skill upgradation on handloom weaving under Samarth Scheme which began on September 8 at Blue Hill Colony, Wokha.

A DIPR report informed that the assessment was carried out to ascertain effectiveness of training imparted by way of practical demonstration of acquired skills and to assess the proficiency in skills based on the standards used by the relevant industry segment, and to ensure that the trainees are ready to take up regular work at shop floor level as a skilled workers.

While the assessment was conducted by Temjennaro, Assistant Director, Weaving Service Centre, Dimapur, Naresh Jambhulkar attended the assessment programme as the Observer.

Altogether, 18 trainees attended the 45-day skill upgradation on handloom weaving. Earlier the trainees also exhibited their finished products which were woven during the training period, the DIPR report stated.

The training was sponsored by Government of India, Ministry of Textiles, Office of The Development Commissioner for Handlooms, New Delhi, and the same was conducted in collaboration with Charity Club Multipurpose Society, Wokha the implementing partner for Wokha district. Weavers Services Centre, Toluvi, Dimapur organised the training programme.

The report stated that the Samarth Scheme training was aimed to promote skilling and skill up-gradation in traditional sectors for persons interested in weaving and to implement cluster development model with the objective of stimulating dormant cluster by intervening in the areas of production, technology, marketing, and skill development to enhance productivity, competiveness with collective efforts and initiatives of individuals units.

MGNF (Mahatma Gandhi National Fellow), Anuranjan Singh proposed the vote of thanks during the short programme for assessment of the trainees, it added.
