The High Court Bar Association (HCBA) organised a felicitation programme in Kohima today to honour Justice Nchumbemo Mozhui on his elevation.
Addressing a gathering of legal professionals at the High Court, Kohima, Mozhui reflected on his 25-year journey since he began practising law. He observed that the journey had moulded him in every aspect and taught him how a lawyer should be, what one needs to be, and how to live a lawyer's life.
Mozhui said that through his seniors, he learned the skills and approaches essential for handling different types of cases and situations, and expressed gratitude for their unhesitating guidance over the years. He added that the profession requires constant learning and is a daily learning process.
“These 25 years have brought me to where I am today,” he said.
Recalling his time as a lawyer, during which he mostly defended cases and stood by his clients, Mozhui observed that the larger challenge now rests not on argument but on balance and judgement—a challenging journey he anticipates.
Having experienced the courtroom aura from the lens of a judge so far, Mozhui expressed that his fellow senior judges have been generous in guiding him towards this new phase of his career.
Mozhui also said that the legal fraternity has always been loving and understanding towards its members and called for continued camaraderie in the future.
During the programme, Justice N Unni Krishnan Nair, Judge Gauhati High Court; Justice Y Longkumer, Additional Judge, GHC; Nagaland Judges Association (NJA), President & Member Secretary, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), Neiko Akami, NJS; President Nagaland Bar Association (NBA) Akito Zhimomi gave short speeches and congratulated the Judge over his elevation as Judge of the High Court and extended good wishes for a successful career.
President HCBA and Senior Advocate CT Jamir chaired the programme and gave the welcome note.
With over 25 years practicing Law, he started initial practice at Delhi and shifted to Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench in the year 2005. He has served as Legal Consultant/Standing Counsel for the Medical Department, National Health Mission (NHM), Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS), Accountant General (AG), Development Authority of Nagaland (DAN), Vigilance Commission (Nagaland Lokayukta), Police Headquarters (PHQ), Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), Nagaland University (NU) and Axis Bank till his appointment as an Additional Judge of Gauhati High Court on September 10, 2026
