
Dimapur, October 24 (MExN): A legal rights awareness campaign conducted by High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) Kohima Bench for the inmates at Central Jail, Dimapur was attended by about 160 inmates.
A press release received here stated that Neiko Akami, Secretary HCLSC & Registrar Kohima Bench in his keynote address encouraged the inmates to reform themselves while in prison and spoke about the Right to appeal in the Higher Court to the Convicted inmates who are undergoing their sentence. He also stated that the High Court Legal Services has presently taken up 14 cases for appeal in the High court and one case in the Supreme Court of India.
Seyielenou Mezü, Chief judicial Magistrate & Secretary DLSA spoke on powers to Commute the sentences under section 432/433/433A CrPC. She emphasized reformatory justice delivery system being the main purpose for an inmate so that they become responsible citizens when they are release from the prison. Senior Advocate Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench CT Jamir spoke on appeal for parole and temporary release from prison as per the laid down Rules and Procedures.
The programme held on October 23 was chaired by Tonika Shohe, Panel Lawyer DLSA, Dimapur. It concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Oben Yanthan, Jailor, Central Jail Dimapur.
