Head Hunters FC (164 Naga TA) today emerged the coveted champion title of the 8th Capt N Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament 2024 here at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.

In the grand finale, Head Hunters FC defeated Mez & Co FC (Kohima) 3-0.

The grand finale saw Head Hunters FC clinch the championship title in an intense match that went into extra time.

Pursunep broke the deadlock in the 93rd minute, and Thanglenhao and Visieto followed up with goals in the 113th and 115th minutes, sealing Head Hunters’ victory and crowning them champions of the tournament.

Earlier, in the 3rd-place match, Halcyon United (Phek) delivered an emphatic 7-0 victory over Dynamo FC (Dimapur).

Halcyon’s relentless offense was spearheaded by Vebizo, who completed a stunning hat trick with goals in the 8th, 34th, and 53rd minutes.

Erikulo added to the score with two quick goals in the 24th and 29th minutes, while Eneibe and Petevizo secured their dominance with goals in the 40th and 49th minutes respectively.

Head Hunters FC gets Rs 3 lakh
The Champion Head Hunters FC lifted the trophy, certificate, medals and a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh while 1st Runner-Up- Mez & Co FC received Rs 1, 50,000 along with trophy, certificate and medals.

2nd Runner-Up-Halcyon United (Phek) and 3rd Runner-up Dynamo FC (Dimapur) have been awarded with Rs 75,000 and Rs. 50,000 respectively.

The closing ceremony was graced by Nagaland I&PR, Soil & Water Conservation advisor Imkong L Imchen.

Fifth Note-Winner of “Ticket to Hornbill” performed at the event.

The tournament, commenced on November 2, saw 16 teams across Nagaland and organized by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles under ‘Operation Sadbhavana.’

The tournament commemorates the legacy of Captain N Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra, who exhibited unparalleled bravery during the Kargil War.

“This initiative aims to provide a significant platform for football teams across Nagaland while fostering sportsmanship, camaraderie, and unity among the region’s youth,” according to Assam Rifles.
