Health Mela conducted at Mon

Dimapur, January 9 (MExN): Flagging off the New Year, The Department of Health & Family Welfare, Mon organised a Health Mela at Chenwetnyu village of Chen Block on January 8, 2011. The Health Mela was received enthusiastically by the people of this block who considered it a welcome respite from the medical difficulties faced by them due to the geographical isolation faced from the rest of the district. The Village Council Chairman of Chenwetnyu, P. M. Nokpai, in his speech said that this health mela being held in the village heralded a year of good health for the people of this block and conveyed his appreciation to the department for their humanitarian services, in the inaugural program.
The Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Mon, Dr. Joy Rongmei, informed the people that the Department had be directed to conduct two health melas in the district during the year 2010-11 and therefore the department had chosen Tobu and Chen blocks, considering the fact that these two blocks were the most difficult areas. Therefore, he called upon the people to make the best use of the event and get themselves check-up and avail of the free medicines that would be distributed during the mela. The inaugural program was chaired by Dr. Lemnyie Konyak, Medical Officer of Mon district Hospital and the vote of thanks was proposed by Manpong Konyak, District Program Manager, NRHM.
The Health Mela was a grand success with a total of 440 out door patients, several Copper T INSERT IGNOREions and with an impressive number of childern and pregnant women receiving immunization. The Health was attended by Deputy CMO, Mon, Dr. Joy Rongmei, District Immunization Officer, Dr. S. Mukherjee, Medical Officers, Dr. Lemnyie, Dr. Supong meren, Dr. Bangwai, Dr. Vijay, Dr. Y. M. Singh, Dr. A. K. Singh and Dr. Chingo Konyak and several staffs of the health and family welfare department of Mon district.
