Health delivery system in the State is all set to undergo major standardization under the promised Prime Minister package with the proposal been laid to establish full nursing college, and to feed all CHCs and PHCs with standardized accommodation and machineries.
The State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. TM Lotha said that the proposal to set up a full fledged nursing college in the State capital has been agreed in principle by the government and is likely to start by next session.
The present health services directorate building will house the said college, as the whole department will be moving out to the newly constructed building at New Secretariat, said Lotha.
Earlier, it was mooted to be run at the Naga Hospital Kohima, but due to space congestion the site has been shifted to present department directorate.
Dr Lotha also said that the idea of setting up of full- fledged nursing college is to meet the increasing demand for nurses, especially from outside the State. He said the State was in need of producing qualified nurses to meet the demand.
“There is high demand for nurses, but it is the quality”, Lotha stressed.
Under the new mega standardization initiatives, all CHCs in eleven districts are to benefit in the form of civil works and improvement of other basic facilities. Money has started pouring in from the Centre under the promised package and has started utilizing for several projects, Lotha said.
Dr TM Lotha further said that introduction of capsule endoscopy recently at Naga Hospital Kohima was part of this standardization initiatives.
“Health delivery system is still lacking behind, we have much left to do”, added Dr. Lotha.
