‘High time to treat both genders equally’

Longleng, October 14 (DIPR): A weeklong Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme observed under the theme “Daughters of New India” in Longleng culminated on October 14 at Auditorium of BHSS with Nuklu Phom, Executive Secretary, Phom Baptist Church Association as the resources person.  

Speaking on the theme of the BBBP, Nuklu said that according to the concept and perspective of ‘Daughters of New India’ a girl child has the potentiality to become an intellectual to transform the society. He asserted that a strong message must be sent to the man folks to create a special platform exclusively for girls to expose their skills and potentials which is very relevant in today’s world.  

Highlighting various disparities between boys and girls within the family in various ways by their own parents, he said it is high time for the parents to treat both the genders equally within the family. He was optimistic that giving special opportunity to their daughters and sisters in the family would be reflected in the society and would eradicate discrimination against women form the community. He also pointed out that providing quality education would help the girls to exercise their potentiality and would earn love and respect in the society. At the same time, he also appealed to the girls to understand their rights and raise their voice in the family and society.  

In order to create awareness to empower women in the society, Nuklu also suggested and requested the District Task Force to organize seminar and workshops for the men folks and adoption of special schemes for girl child which according him should be judiciously utilize for the upliftment of girl child.  

The highlights of the programme were voice of girl’s child by Chubum a student of Mt. Carmel School; Special number by Longleng Town Baptist Church Youth; Cultural activities by Good shepherd School; Presentation of prize for the winners of Essay, Poem and Slogan and felicitation by the Deputy Commissioner and a special Prayer for girl child by the pastor LTBC.  

The programme was chaired by CDPO Tamlu and Invocation was done by Pastor Police Baptist Church Longleng while concluding remarks was delivered by EAC HQ Robi Sangtam. To show love and respect for the girl child the participating men folks led by the Deputy Commissioner, Longleng Y Denngan Avennoho Phom and the resource person served the refreshment to the girls.
