A one day state seminar on ‘Higher Education & Career Opportunities Abroad’ was held at the premises of Immanuel College, Dimapur on November 17.

Organised by Immanuel College Placement Cell in collaboration with The Morung Express, the resource persons were James Gwa, Director of Global Management College of Australia, Melbourne and Belinda Swank, Human resource Manager, Global Management College of Australia, Melbourne.

James, who has several years of experience studying and working in Australia, informed the students on the different ways they could apply and join the study program Australia has to offer. He encouraged the students that there are a lot of opportunities out there and one must not simply assume that going abroad to study is very expensive and scholarships are hard to avail. “It’s not expensive if you know how to look around. There are many employment pathways and there really are huge opportunities out there,” he stated.

During the technical session, he briefed the students on how the Australian work force prioritizes work experience and skill knowledge over degrees. He also highlighted various Vocational studies they could take up and also stated that Australians are always taking up a lot of vocational courses simply to upgrade their skills. He explained about GMCA, a private registered training organization based in Melbourne that offers Nationally Recognized Training. He further stated, “I encourage all young Nagas not to be afraid and just go for it.”

Belinda also stated, “I understand that it is very difficult to get a job once you graduated in Nagaland.” She highlighted that for students interested in the Australian Curriculum, GMCA at Myanmar offers a lot of skills training. There is a huge amount of opportunity so students are welcome to come and get skill training and work experience. There are different courses and diplomas available, she said.

Pelesakuo Kehie, Assistant Professor chaired the programme. During the programme, introductory speech was stated by Kh.Phoshu, Regional Marketing Manager, Global Management College of Australia, Melbourne.
