Assam Chief Minister and the north-east’s top BJP figure, Himanta Biswa Sarma was confident of the NDPP-BJP coalition sweeping the elections to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on February 27. “The NDPP-BJP will sweep the election and we are confident of unitedly fighting and win the election hands down,” said the BJP’s top figure in the north-east on February 4. He flew in to Chümoukedima, today, to accompany Nagaland PHED Minister and the BJP’s 4 Ghaspani I candidate, N Jacob Zhimomi to the District Returning Office where the former filed his nomination.
Sarma described Zhimomi as an upcoming and energetic leader and claimed that Zhimomi’s performance as the PHED Minister has been “extraordinary.”
While the seat-sharing deal with the NDPP had BJP ticket aspirants in furore, he was however of the opinion that it was solved “nicely and smoothly” without much hiccup.
According to Sarma, the most important thing has been to bring permanent peace in Nagaland by finding a solution to the Naga political problem. “It will continue to be the priority for the government and also we need to do a lot of development work for the state of Nagaland. I think all this you will get in our election manifesto,” he said.
He added that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi; Home Minister, Amit Shah; BJP President, JP Nadda, besides other Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of the north-east states will hit the election campaign trail in Nagaland.
