HITO seeks inclusion of Khasi language in 8th Schedule

The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has urged the state government to pursue with the Centre for immediate inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India. In a statement issued on Sunday, HITO president Donbok Dkhar said the government should follow up the issue to ensure that the long pending aspiration of the people is fulfilled. Dkhar also appreciated the decision taken by the East Khasi Hills district administration to issue orders related to COVID-19 pandemic in Khasi language.

"We also urge the citizens of the state to strictly follow protocols and SOPs issued by the district administration from time to time," he said. Meanwhile, the HITO also requested the state government to consider introduction of the Khasi anthem in all schools in the region.
