Holistic approach towards health & hygiene

Phek, August 12 (MExN): The Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS), North East Initiative Development Agency, Kohima and Tsupfume Youth Organization initiated a sanitation programme at Tsupfume village in Phek district on August 11. The objective of the programme, which was supported by PHED Pfutsero and TATA Trusts, was to create awareness and support farmers in making informed choices on daily hygiene habits and healthy living.

Speaking in the programme, V. Kanuo, Executive Director CWWS elucidated on need for holistic approach towards health and hygiene. Hygienic habit in food, home and surroundings, personal hygiene, and maintenance of hygiene at public spaces contribute to enhancing and living a quality life, Kanuo said.

Dr. Ketinaro Aier, Senior Project Associate, NEIDA accentuated on the risks of zoonotic disease transmission considering the closeness that Nagas share with their livestock. Steps such as sanitation of livestock spaces, routine veterinary care, and simple personal hygiene habits after coming into contact with livestock are some of the measures to be taken to prevent and reduce the risk zoonotic diseases transmission, it was stated.   A total of 122 youth, farmers and women participated in the programme.

It may be noted here that CWWS in partnership with NEIDA is implementing a sustainable livelihoods promotion project titled ‘From subsistence to prosperity through community led and managed livelihood programs in Phek District’ in 25 villages across 3 blocks in Phek district, namely Kikruma, Chizami and Pfutsero, funded by TATA Trusts.
