Hope Academy presented a large-scale adaptation of ‘The Lion King’ on December 15.
KOHIMA, December 15 (MExN): Hope Academy presented a large-scale adaptation of ‘The Lion King’ on December 15, marking the ninth edition of its Annual School Drama, a production characterised by its scale, discipline and clear educational purpose.
The production featured 58 student actors and dancers from Grades 4 to 12, supported by a 77-member live choir. The performance was the result of months of sustained rehearsal and mentorship by faculty, the school said.
As a pioneer in Nagaland in mounting full-length school musicals, the academy’s student-driven production explored themes of responsibility, resilience, and belonging through the narrative framework of the popular story.
Beyond performance, the event served as a holistic learning platform where students developed life skills including confidence, teamwork, time management, and stage discipline.
The programme was graced by Khyochano TCK, Founder of the Brillante Piano Festival, Director of Music Academy Kohima, and Artistic Director of the Jose Thomas Performing Arts Center, Kochi, Kerala, as the Guest of Honour.
In her address, she highlighted how such productions cultivate the four essential Cs in education—critical thinking, creative thinking, communication, and collaboration. She commended the school for sustaining arts initiatives of this scale within an academic environment.
Principal Sashizungla Ao, in her address, stated the production was conceived to honour the importance of every role, on stage and in life. She emphasised that true growth emerges when responsibility is valued over recognition.
The drama concluded with the full cast and choir assembled on stage, receiving sustained applause from the audience.
