Hope Academy emerged victorious in the second edition of Inter-School Futsal Tournament.
Dimapur, June 4 (MExN): Hope Academy emerged victorious in the second edition of Inter-School Futsal Tournament, overcoming St Mary’s Montessori Higher Secondary School in a tense penalty shootout after a goalless final on Saturday. The two-day event, held on July 3 and 4, saw eight schools from across Dimapur compete for the running trophy.
The tournament, hosted by Hope Academy, featured teams from Shalom Public School, The Maple Tree, Spring Blossoms Academy, Tuyitu Foundation School, St Mary’s Montessori HSS, Beanstalk, Hope Academy, and Hollotoli School. The inaugural edition in 2025 was won by St Mary’s Montessori.
Hope Academy Principal-Director Sashizungla Ao formally declared the tournament open. In her address, she urged the participants to compete in the true spirit of sportsmanship and fair play, stressing the importance of physical fitness and concluding with the wish that “the fittest team may emerge victorious.”
The final lived up to that billing, with both Hope Academy and St Mary’s Montessori HSS proving evenly matched through regulation time. The deadlock was broken only in the dramatic penalty shootout, where the hosts held their nerve to lift the trophy, while St Mary’s settled for the runners-up spot.
Individual honours were also presented at the closing ceremony. Kimhito Awomi of The Maple Tree earned the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer. Duden Nusory of Hope Academy was awarded the Golden Glove for his exceptional goalkeeping, and Elvin Misao of St Mary’s HSS was named the Golden Ball winner as the Player of the Tournament.
