
Dimapur, April 2 (MExN): The Hornbill National Rock Contest is all set to go global. Advisor to the Music Task Force and New and Renewable Energy, Khriehu Liezietsu revealed the Nagaland state government’s plan to elevate the annual Hornbill National Rock Contest to the Hornbill International Rock Contest. He stated this at the Hope Centre for Excellence, Dimapur on April 2 while releasing a gospel album by Vizho Thakro.
Speaking to The Morung Express, Khriehu Liezietsu said that the task force will hold a meeting in the next few days. He stated that the meeting would plan out the steps that require to be taken to promote the rock contest on an international scale.
The Hornbill Rock Contest has been attracting bands from all parts of the country every year. The event has seen acts of varied genres from all over the country compete for the top prize. The winner of the contest will walk away with a cash prize of Rs 10 Lakh. This is double the amount offered in the previous events. Khriehu noted that the government was also working on a website solely dedicated to the promotion of Naga musicians. Admitting that Nagaland was still lacking in music infrastructure, Khriehu pointed out that a Music Academy with state-of-the-art facility at Jotsoma was nearing completion. Khriehu added that the academy will be completed within two to three months. He further called upon all musicians to join hands and encouraged the youth to continue with their dreams.
