Hospitality and tourism sector capacitated on HIV & AIDS issues

Dimapur, October 25 (MExN): With the aim of capacitating the hospitality and tourism sector on HIV & AIDS issues, the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) in collaboration with Nagaland Hotel and Restaurant Association (NHRA) and VIHAAN Care & Support conducted a one-day sensitization programme on October 24 in the Conference Hall of Tourist Lodge, Dimapur.

A press note stated here that welcoming the participants, Vito Aomi, President, NHRA encouraged the participants to work collectively and continue the efforts in the fight against HIV. Dr. Antoly, Deputy CMO, Dimapur while giving the keynote address, called upon the participants to support the Department in reducing HIV transmission in the district. She also informed the participants about prevention methods of Dengue and Iodine deficiency disorders.  

The objective of the training was given by Ainato Yeptho, Assistant Director, Youth Affairs, NSACS, while Metevinuo Sakhrie, Joint Director (IEC), NSACS gave a detailed presentation on the roles expected from NHRA, Tourism Officials and Tour Operators for prevention of HIV. Dr. Molusen Jamir, MO ART Plus Centre Dimapur covered the topic of HIV & ART Management, while the HIV scenario & services available in Dimapur District was presented by Mecievinuo, DPO, DAPCU Dimapur.  

Two positive speakers shared their experiences, which was followed by an overview of Vihaan activities by Shan Ezung, Program Manager, Vihaan Care & Support. Discussion and way forward carrying forward preventive activities in the district was discussed. The programme concluded with presentation by Temjenkala Aier, Joint Secretary, NHRA and vote of thanks by Chongkoi Khaming AD (MM).  

Altogether, a total of 52 participants attended the Sensitization Program which included officials of Nagaland Hotel & Restaurant Association (NHRA), Dimapur district Tourism Department officials and Dimapur Taxi Union.
