Kohima, June 1 (MExN): The felicitation programme on completion of phase-1 Hospitality & Tourism Training for the youth of Eastern Nagaland took place at College of Arts & Technology, Nerhe Phezha in Kohima district on May 31.
This training on hospitality and tourism sector was conducted by Tourism Department, Nagaland and Vernajyoti Educare and sponsored by Department of Under Developed Areas (DUDA) under UDAP 2022-23.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso (Ato) extended best wishes to all the trainees as they are going for further training at Goa. Be the best ambassador for Nagas, he said and told them to have positive approach in their dealings and uplift the Nagas and bring a good name to the society. He also told the trainees to work with innovative ideas to excel.
Sandip Kumar Das, Founder & Director Vernajyoti Educare said that 19 trainees has completed phase-1 training for a period of one month and they will further go for another 6 months training in hospitality sector in Goa by this month (June). He said that all the 19 trainees will get job placement after the completion of the 6 months course.
In keynote address, Keduosie-ü Metha, Director, Tourism Department, Nagaland, said that by introducing Skill, Development training/Capacity Building Programme, the department main focus is to create change in the outlook of the local community in the approach to hospitality sector and rather create sustainable livelihood by creating opportunity of market demands and to provide employment opportunities to the youths/Stakeholders empowering them with necessary skills required.
“Through this initiative, the department is dedicated to emphasize more on the youths especially the unemployed youths, school & college drop outs, youths from rural areas & underprivileged backgrounds to train & skill them and make them employable in organised & unorganised sectors,” she said.
It has been the endeavour of Nagaland Tourism to put in place a system of training and professional education capable of generating manpower sufficient to meet the needs of the tourism and hospitality industry, both quantitatively and qualitatively, she said adding that the main objective is to train youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds focusing on young men and women from rural areas and provide them with employable skills, coupled with access to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. Reny Wilfred, joint secretary, Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Veyielo Doulo, assistant director, tourism department and Yonglong Konyak, PS to Advisor, Geology & Mining and DUDA also spoke at the programme.
Yangto Wangsa and Lisila shared their experiences and expectation. The programme was chaired by Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, Director DUDA while vote of thanks was proposed by Tiarenla Rutsa, Joint Director, Tourism Nagaland.
