HPV vaccination training held in Mon

Mon, January 29 (MExN): The District Health Society Mon conducted a comprehensive training programme on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for health care providers on January 28 at the Conference Hall of District Hospital Mon.

The training was aimed at preparing frontline health workers for the effective rollout of the HPV vaccination programme under the Universal Immunization Programme.

District Programme Officer (RCH & UIP) Dr Wungyong welcomed the participants and highlighted the role of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer. He termed the introduction of the new HPV vaccine as a major public health advancement in safeguarding the health of adolescent girls through strengthened immunization services.

The programme focused on enhancing the technical knowledge, operational readiness and communication skills of health care providers to ensure high vaccine acceptance and coverage. Sessions covered cervical cancer and its association with HPV, global progress and outcomes of HPV vaccination, and vaccine-related information including schedule, safety and efficacy.

Participants were trained on operational planning for HPV vaccination, including the use of the eVIN+ HPV vaccine module of U-WIN for vaccine logistics management and real-time monitoring. Emphasis was placed on vaccine and cold chain management, safe injection practices, and the reporting and management of Adverse Events Following Immunization to ensure safe and high-quality service delivery.

To support smooth implementation at the field level, sessions were held on preparedness assessment for HPV vaccination campaigns, session site management, and the roles and responsibilities of health workers, stakeholders and caregivers. The training also addressed communication challenges, with a focus on strategies to counter myths and misconceptions and build community trust.

The programme concluded with discussions on the way forward, stressing coordinated action, teamwork and proactive community engagement to achieve high HPV vaccine uptake.
