DIMAPUR, JULY 17 (MExN): The Hindu Seva Samiti (HSS) Dimapur and the Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) have written to the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner urging for opening of the New Market and the Haji Park Market.

In a letter to the Dimapur DC, the two organizations informed that the two markets have now been closed for more than 120 days. “As most shopkeepers belong to our two communities hence we are forced to enlighten you the pathetic condition of these two markets’ shopkeepers,” they said.

The two organizations informed that more than 15,000 family members of shopkeepers are dependent on the earnings of these two markets.

It was informed that the HSS and MCD have also met the CAO, DMC for his opinion on the above subject and learnt that “he had already submitted the plan and guideline to open the above two markets.”  In the light of his guideline, the markets may be allowed to open at the earliest, they urged.

The letter pointed out that COVID-19 will remain till a vaccine is found, adding that in other parts of India businesses have opened and even the shopping malls are opened with certain guidelines. “In similar way, both the markets can be allowed to open with strict guidelines which the administration feels fit,” it suggested.

Meanwhile, the HSS and MCD noted that “maximum shopkeepers are tenants from our two communities and we see & feel their plight as every shopkeeper has at least five members to feed. Their children are also taking education through online classes, for which fees have to be paid. We fear that if immediately something is not done in this regard, we will have to face unwanted circumstances.”
