ICAR conduct awareness on Agromet Advisory services

Dimapur, May 11 (MExN): Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa, ICAR Research complex for NEH Region Medziphema organised a one day awareness programme on ‘Role of weather based Agromet Advisory services for the development of Agriculture & Allied Sectors in Nagaland’ at Zuheshe village, Niuland block under Dimapur district on May 10. Altogether 40 farmers attended the programme.  

Imtisenla Walling, Technical Officer, AMFU Jharnapani, ICAR Nagaland Centre gave the introductory remark and apprised the participants on Agromet Advisory and its usefulness in depth and how its usage could help the farmers in making decisions and efficient mobilization of farm resources in the changing climate scenario.  

She mentioned about the monthly advisories that are being provided on the first Friday of every month through the Morung Express and encouraged the farmers to avail the opportunity of ICT medium like whatsapp. Farmers were also encouraged to utilize the service of Kisan Mobile Advisory Service (KMAS) where SMS are send biweekly (Tuesday and Friday) covering various topics like crop production, crop protection, livestock management (poultry, piggery), weather forecast, horticulture crops, fishery, general awareness and other agriculture information etc. Information is delivered to the registered farmers of the state through mobile Short Message Services (SMS).  

Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, ACTO Animal Science educated the farmers on the Options for managing livestock production systems to adapt to climate change. She stated that modernization is here to stay, educated the villagers about the negative impact of urbanization which she said in the long run may shorten the survival of our mother earth. Dr. Ngullie also dealt with the problems faced by the farmers in the context of animal husbandry. She apprised the farmers about the symptoms of the common diseases in livestock and their remedial measures.  

Farmers actively participated in the discussion, and the problems faced by the farmers on agriculture and livestock were noted, where they were advised management practices to be followed. After the session a visit to different poultry and piggery unit was done.
