ICAR-NRC on Mithun assures technical help to Manipur

Dimapur, December 18 (MExN): For improvement of Mithun husbandry practices in Manipur, an interactive meeting was held at ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema with the Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Government of Manipur on December 16.   A three-member delegation of Department of Vety & AH, Manipur comprising Joint Director Dr. Ng. Ibotombi Singh, Dr. Arunkumar Singh and Dr. Bhubaneswar Singh attended the meeting to discuss possible collaboration and technical backstepping from ICAR-NRCM to improve Mithun husbandry system in order to increase the dwindling Mithun population in Manipur, a press release from ICAR-NRC on Mithun stated.   Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director of ICAR-NRC on Mithun, while welcoming the much-needed initiative, emphasized on the potential of Mithun farming as an alternative means of livelihood. Stressing that ICAR-NRCM is the only Mithun research station in the world, Dr. Mitra agreed to extend the technical expertise in project formulation and provide all the technical know-how towards scientific Mithun rearing.   The meeting agreed to organize a stakeholder workshop in the month of January 2018 in Imphal to promote scientific Mithun farming in the State.   The team also visited the Mithun farm, which is the only intensive farm of Mithun in the world, the release said. They witnessed the use of Mithun bull as a draught animal and also visited the demonstration unit of semi-intensive Mithun rearing in the farmer’s field at Molvum village.   From ICAR on NRCM, Dr. N Haque, Dr. S Toppo, Dr. MH Khan, Dr. Jayanata Cahamuah, Dr. Stephen S. Hanah and Dr. Kubu Khate attended the meeting.
