
Chungtia Yimsen, April 12 (MExN): The Tsurangkong Primary Health Centre which was constructed by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was formally handed over to the Department of Health & Family Welfare at Chungtia Yimsen here today. A press release issued by Olemienla, District Media Officer, NRHM, Mokokchung stated that during a brief formal programme held at Tsurangkong PHC, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) General Secretary, Zakie Kire expressed gratitude to the ICRC for contributing and supporting to make this Primary Health Centre available so that healthcare facility can be easily accessible to the citizens of the area. Saying that handing over of the PHC is a great achievement, the IRCS General Secretary hoped that this health centre should not be a name sake centre but should be a place where people are given required services. “Make it a life saving health centre for the community,” urged Zakie Kire. However, Kire pointed out that a medical quarter is urgently required and therefore urged the Health &Family Welfare Department to look at the matter at the earliest. He further appealed the people to take the PHC as their own property and protect it. He also encouraged the Health workers to take their profession as a mission and give the best service to the community.
It may be noted that the fund for construction of the Tsurangkong PHC building was sanctioned under Prime Ministers Package but it could not be completed. The International Committee of the Red Cross took up the uncompleted building in the Year 2011. For so long the incomplete PHC was neglected, but it was during the visit of Deputy Head of ICRC Delegation, Yaya Alibi and his team of officials, who while crossing Mokokchung noticed the half constructed and abandoned PHC building and decided to finish the PHC building for the sake of the patients of the area.
The Dy. Chief Medical Officer of Mokokchung, Dr Akaba, who was also present at the programme, deeply appreciated the contributions of the ICRC and said that the department takes their contribution as a token of love. He assured that the department will strengthen the PHC and deliver quality health services to the people. Nonetheless, the people of Tsurangkong range under Mokokchung are a happier lot thanks to the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross who have not only completed the Primary Health Centre building but also built two nurses quarter and fencing and adequate water supply. “For seven years this building was neglected, but thanks to the ICRC, the people of Tsurangkong, can now avail better health services,” said an elated Bendang, Village Council Chairman of Chungtia Yimsen.
The Indian Red Cross society, Mokokchung Branch expressed deep gratitude to ICRC engineer, Francios Bohr, contractor N Senka Ozukum and Engineer Keny, Technical Advisor for the assistance and contribution in making the Tsurangkong PHC a reality in the field of providing quality health services to the people.
