KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 15 (MExN): The 33rd annual general body meeting of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Nagaland state branch took place on November 10 at Red Cross Complex, Kohima.
The meeting was attended by almost all the honorary Secretaries of the District Red Cross Branches in Nagaland. It was presided over by Abeni TCK, Chairperson, Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland. There was a thorough discussion and deliberations on the activities and challenges faced by the Red Cross volunteers in the state as a whole.
One major concern of the society is combating the COVID-19 pandemic. To combat the pandemic, items such as masks, hand gloves, face shields etc have been received from the National Headquarter New Delhi and these items were handed over to the districts for distribution. The house acknowledged the receipt of some 15,000 soaps gifted by the Nestle Company to IRCS Nagaland to be used in the fight against COVID-19. These soaps were given to all the district branches for distribution.
It was resolved that special Red Cross campaign will be organized at all the District Headquarters simultaneously on November 27 against COVID-19 at 10:00am. Items such as soaps, masks, hand gloves, pamphlets etc will be distributed to the public/villagers free of cost. The members had a fruitful discussion on a wide range of issues and decided to rededicate themselves to cause of Red Cross.
It was agreed that the Deputy Commissioners, Presidents and Secretaries of IRCS District branches would give more time and interest to the activities of Red Cross. Another resolution was to enroll more Red Cross members in all the Districts. The house meanwhile reiterated the decision of the 32nd AGM that a common programme will be selected on a particular day for all the District/ Sub-Divisional Branches to show the presence of Red Cross to the public every year e.g. 27th November 2020.
It was further informed during the meeting that Nagaland Chief Minister and Vice President of IRCSN, Neiphiu Rio donated an amount of Rs 12,96,766 for purchase of one hearse to the Society.
