Kohima, Sept 23: The State level Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Committee on HIV/AIDS held a meeting on 22nd September at the office of the Project Director NSACS, Kohima.
The meeting reviewed the spread of awareness on HIV/AIDS and noted that the awareness of the subject even among the rural people were very high. The committee however noted with concern that in spite of the high level of awareness people were still continuing with risky behaviors. The members felt that an in depth study/research is required on the subject to find out why people are so slow in behavioral changes in spite of the risks and recommended strategies for more and faster behavioral changes.
The committee discussed several strategies for more effective awareness campaign and decided to launch a more concerted and co-ordinate campaign involving all the partners and organisations involved. Besides several long terms strategies the committee decided on the following immediate activities:-
1. To organise a panel/group discussion on the issues connected with HIV/AIDS to be recorded and telecast/broadcasted by DDK and AIR.
2. To organise conducted tours for media persons to HIV/AIDS facilities in different parts of the State.
3. To supply both the print and electronic media with more information on the complex issue of HIV/AIDS.
The meeting was attended by the Station Director DDK Kohima, Station Director AIR Kohima, representative of Director IPR besides the Project Director and Officers of NSACS.
