Longleng, September 25 (MExN): The District Cultural Office, Longleng organised celebration of tribal festival on the theme ‘Igniting Cultural Traditions’ at PBCA Convention hall Longleng with Dr Samuel Akho Konyak P, NCS EAC Hq Longleng as special guest on September 24.
A DIPR report stated that Dr Samuel Akho Konyak in his address said, “Nagas are gifted with rich culture and traditions, our food habits, clothing, language may be different but this diversity unite us and makes us unique.”
He said that development and advancement may arrive but keeping in touch with our culture and traditions is a key factor is maintaining our existence and identity. Government of India spends 3,000 crore of rupees every year just alone for Art & Culture ministry, a clear sign of its importance and preservation, he informed.
“Culture makes us a responsible human being. We should tolerate and respect different cultures and traditions and never have the thought of superiority against others,” he added and encouraged the gathering to give major time and emphasis should be given in learning local dialect, folklores, folk songs and folk dance.
Highlight of the day programme included folklore recitation by Choiphen Phom and D Rose Henyah Phom, presentation of cultural dance by Yongnyah Cultural Troupe Society, Good Shepherd School, Bhumnyu Student Unit Longleng, Pongo Student Unit Longleng and Phom Lempong School.
Tanlei, Pastor MBC, pronounced the invocation, Mapeudibe, District Cultural Officer, Longleng delivered the welcome address and vote of thanks by Tenhe Chungpang, ARO and it was chaired by Meria P Moichong.
