‘Igniting cultural traditions’ event in Ungma

A one-day tribal festival organized by the District Cultural Office, Mokokchung under the theme ‘Igniting cultural traditions’ at District Cultural Office complex, Ungma, Mokokchung with Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung as the special guest on September 29.

Imyaba Ao, District Cultural Officer, Mokokchung in his welcome address said that such events were necessary because it is only during such festivals there is social cohesion, and our cultural and ethnic topics are brought up which in turn gives information to the community about our cultural and traditional aspect of the society. He said that the purpose of inviting students to the festival was to educate them and make them appreciate our culture and traditions more since it is also an integral part of learning.

Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, in his speech said that India is a diverse country and that the state of Nagaland is like a mini-India with several tribal communities living together with diverse culture and tradition and each community maintaining their own culture and tradition. He said that such festivals are important in igniting our cultural diversity and performing arts are a major asset for every community. 

The festival featured a variety of traditional and indigenous performances, including folk songs, folklore, and presentations of indigenous games. The cultural performances were presented by Associates for performing Arts and Theatricals (APAT) Mokokchung, Aosungkum Cultural Club, Mokokchung Village, Nentong Rogo, Soyim, NI Jamir Govt Hr Sec School and Mayangnokcha Govt Hr Sec School.
