IGP clears air on 9 IRB deployment

KOHIMA: Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) MV Chakhesang has clarified on a news report carried in a local daily recently where it was stated that poor accommodation facilities were being provided to 9 Indian Reserve Battalion personnel posted at Chattisgarh. 

While stating that the personnel were being housed in the edifices made earlier for Chattisgarh State Electricity Board which was being renovated by the Chattisgarh Government, the IGP stated that the Nagaland Government and the Department had urged upon the Chattisgarh Government to hasten the renovation works. Anti-malaria medicines were provided to the jawans before their departure, Chakhesang said. He further stated that three medical officers and other paramedics of Chattisgarh Health Department visited the IRB personnel and provided various medicines and kits to combat malaria and other prevalent diseases. 

Chakhesang further highlighted that Special Duty Allowance and Detachment Allowance are granted to the officers and men of the 9 NAP (IRB) which was sanctioned by the Government of Nagaland at 15.5 percent of basic pay. He further informed that officers of the same rank may draw different amounts depending on the scale of pay and the length of service. The NAP personnel presently deployed in Chattisgarh are entitled the provision obtaining an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh in the event of death in action, he said. Chakhesang also said the NAP Battalion was sent to Chattisgarh as per the instructions of the Central Government.
