
Kohima, May 20 (MExN): The Assam Rifles today said that it busted an Illegal weapon smuggling network in Nagaland with the arrest of three Naga Political Groups (NPGs) cadres in Dimapur during a crackdown on May 17 and 18.
The troops of Assam Rifles launched the crackdown on the network by launching multiple search operations after a period of immaculate intelligence generation and planning which revealed “deep rooted nexus of illegal foreign make weapon smuggling in specific areas of Dimapur,” informed a press release issued by Col C Konwer, PRO (Defence).
Without naming the groups to which the cadres belong, the release identified them as Maj Tonivi Swu (39 years), a resident of Hemolim Village, Zunheboto District; Capt Hukuto Tokishe (42 yrs) of Shamator Village; and Leacy Kiviho Kiva (50 years), a resident of Bank Colony, Dimapur.
Three pistols, one rifle, ammunition and other incriminating materials were recovered from them and they were handed over to East Dimapur Police Station for further investigation on night of May 18 along with recovered items, it said. “The busting of the weapon smuggling network has put caution on the elements who are trying to upset the security situation in the state,” it added.
