Immanuel College observes World Heritage Day

Immanuel College, Dimapur observed World Heritage Day at the College Auditorium on April 21.

Dimapur, April 22 (MExN): Immanuel College, Dimapur observed World Heritage Day with under the theme “Preserving the past, Enriching the future” at the College Auditorium on April 21. The event was organised by the Department of History in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college.

In the keynote address, Vihuto Achumi, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Immanuel College emphasised the importance of preserving cultural identity, particularly in the context of Naga culture and history. He highlighted that folk tales and folklore serve as vital sources of historical knowledge, transmitting collective memory, values, and wisdom across generations.

Achumi also addressed the adverse impact of modernity and globalization, warning of the growing culture shock faced by indigenous communities, he urged the audience to see heritage not as a burden, but as a precious gift—one that must be consciously preserved and passed on.

The event featured showcase of indigenous heritage, including, Pochury Folk Song by B.A. 2nd Semester students, Zeliang Folk Dance by B.A. 4th Semester students, Angami Folktale (Sopfünuo) by B.A. 6th Semester and Chang Folk Song by B.A. 2nd Semester students. This was followed by indigenous games and a display of Naga Cuisine.

Earlier, the event was chaired by Sheka K Zhimo and Naomi Ngullie, and commenced with an invocation by Etiemla Ozükum. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Nengpilhing, IQAC Coordinator of the college.
